India is the ‘Country of Honour’ at the ongoing 75th Cannes Film Festival. Led by Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Singh Thakur a delegation of 11 members including Pooja Hegde, Tamannaah Bhatia, Urvashi Rautela, AR Rahman, R Madhavan arrived at Cannes to represent India. Deepika Padukone, on the other hand, will be seen as a jury member at the Festival. On Day 2 of the festival, Deepika accompanied the Indian delegation to inaugurate the Indian Pavilion at Cannes.
The Indian delegation spoke about Indian and world cinema at the inauguration ceremony and shared their thoughts on the scope and reach of cinema in general. At the event, folk singer Mame Khan (who is also one of the attendees at the film festival) sang a beautiful song. Soon Deepika got up to dance to the song. She was accompanied by Urvashi Rautela, Tamannaah Bhatia, and Pooja Hegde. Khan was singing Ghoomar when Deepika did the Ghoomar step and others followed.

Meanwhile, speaking about India’s cinematic journey, Deepika said at the inauguration of the India pavilion, “I feel we have a long way to go as a country, I feel really proud to be here as an Indian and to be representing the country. But when we look back at 75 Years of Cannes, I have said earlier also that there have been only a handful of Indian films, and Indian talent that have been able to make it and I feel like collectively as a nation today we have it.”
